Europacable welcomes the proposed inclusion of power cables in the CBAM

This inclusion is a significant milestone for Europe’s cable industry. Today, the European Commission unveiled the proposal to include power cables and wires containing steel and/or aluminium in the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), effective from 2028.

This decision is a testament to the strategic importance of our sector in building a sustainable, competitive, and resilient Europe. It recognises the role of cables in Europe’s electrification and secures fair competition to ensure that cables are made in Europe, for Europe.

Why does it matter?

This proposal provides the visibility and stability needed for European manufacturers to continue investing in sustainable production across Europe. The inclusion of power cables in CBAM will also prevent carbon leakage and ensure a level playing field for European manufacturers.

Europacable will continue to engage actively with all stakeholders in the legislative process to ensure this inclusion is secured, supporting a European manufacturers’ competitiveness and long-term investments in Europe.
