Europacable welcomes EU Grids Action Plan as it paves the way for European grid technology excellence to connect Europe.
Europacable welcomes the Commission’s EU Action Plan for Grids published today as it underlines the strategic importance of power networks: Grids may not become the bottleneck to delay Europe’s green transition – and they will not if all actors boldly join forces. European cable manufacturers stand ready to deliver a sustainable and electrified future for Europe.
The industry, being a world leader in cable technology, represents a European success story and has the capacity, knowhow, and expertise to connect Europe and its renewable power sources. Many of Europacable’s contributions over the past months are directly reflected in the Commission’s publication: The need for a longer-term demand visibility to ensure adequate capacity planning; viability across policy initiatives to secure European manufacturing; fairness to ensure competitive grid technology production in Europe; and greater coherence in grid deployment.
European cable manufacturers have always supplied the cables needed to connect Europe – and will have the capacity Europe requires in the future: The substantial investments announcements already made by Europacable members will more than double our industry’s capacity to produce the high voltage cables needed in Europe by 2030. And our members are committed to invest even more if necessary. To make these investments viable, three aspects should be accounted for: Fair prices, fair market access and factoring in sustainable performance. Doing so, Europe will secure the future competitiveness of strategic net-zero European grid technology excellence.
