“Europe has all it needs to digitalise: the European cable industry has the technologies, the experience, the expertise, the people and the capacities to connect Europe to the world” noted Volker Wendt, Europacable Secretary General, during the conference “From risk prevention to resilience of submarine cables: security coming to the surface”
Complementing this intervention, Europacable published today its position paper on the Submarine Cable Security Toolbox, welcoming the European Commission’s initiative as a key step to enhance the security, resilience and strategic autonomy of Europe’s critical connectivity infrastructure.
Protecting submarine cable systems requires a comprehensive approach from redundancy, European industrial capacity, supply chain security, enhanced monitoring, physical protection and strengthened repair capabilities.
Moreover, clear financing frameworks shall promote deployment of strategic Cable Projects of European Interest (CPEIs) and support existing maintenance and repair frameworks.
Europacable and its members stand ready to support the effective and timely implementation of the Toolbox measures, in close cooperation with EU institutions and Member States.
