Europacable published its Position Paper on Data Centre Interconnects (DCI), calling on EU policymakers to recognise high-performance fibre interconnects as strategic critical infrastructure.
Europe’s ambitions in AI, cloud computing and digital innovation will rely on sovereign and resilient fibre interconnects between and into data centres.
Therefore, Europacable calls for:
▶️ Recognition of DCI as “Strategic Critical Digital Infrastructure” under the upcoming Cloud and AI Development Act
▶️ Targeted public investment and a “Buy European” preference for DCI cable components
▶️ Sustainability and resilience requirements need to be an intrinsic part of regulatory frameworks related to DCI buildout
▶️Streamlined permitting and strengthened skills to accelerate deployment
