Europacable is pleased to co-sign the joint industry position paper “Safety by Design in Europe’s Housing Simplification Agenda”, together with European fire safety and construction stakeholders.
Our message is clear: simplification must strengthen safety, not weaken it.
A credible Housing Simplification Package should be built on a safe-by-design approach, integrating fire and life safety from the earliest stages of planning, design and permitting.
For Europe’s cable industry, this is essential. As buildings become increasingly electrified and digitalised, high-quality and safe cable systems are a critical component of resilient, sustainable and future-proof housing.
Simplification should therefore:
- Build simplification on a safe-by-design approach
- Reduce administrative fragmentation with automatic approvals
- Develop EU-level guidance on risk-based approach
- Support the development of harmonised EU-level fire safety data
- Ensure clear allocation of fire and life safety responsibilities
- Support digital permitting
